Track Record of the Selected Assignments and Projects

Centre for Training and Consultancy (CTC) is a Georgian foundation working since 1999. CTC wants to contribute to social and economic development in Georgia by strengthening local human and organizational capital and promote the ideas of best practice management and good governance.

CTC has double type of profile. On the one hand it is an adult education institute supporting development of human resources with contemporary leadership and working competencies and on the other hand it is a consultancy centre assisting organizations to strengthen their organizational systems, structures, develop adequate strategies and management practices.  

Thus CTC clients are both individuals and organizations willing to increase their competitiveness and professionalism.

With its training and consultancy services, CTC aims at lasting improvements among its clients.. Therefore, it strives for

  • a professional quality
  • strong practice orientation
  • adaptation of modern management approaches, taking into account the specific local socio-cultural context

CTC delivers its services though open enrollment courses, ordered customized training or consultancy assignments. CTC also initiates its own projects funded by different donors or sponsors oriented at supporting education and development needs of selected individuals or organizations.

At the initial phase CTC start up was strongly supported by 3 European donor organizations, Cordaid Nl, EED Ger, Miseroer Ger. They invested in developing local know-how, personnel and subsidized delivery of capacity building to local actors. CTC started its activity in close cooperation with company Management Foundation for Development (NL). MDF is Netherlands based, professional education and consultancy centre working worldwide since last 20 years and delivering management support. MDF transferred its experience, curriculum and trained CTC local staff.

Since that CTC developed number of its own new products and today its package includes short term (from 3, 5 to 7 days) courses in strategic and general management, human resource management, financial management, project management, leadership skills, communication competences and etc. The courses were tailored to different industries, including health, education, community and regional government.

CTC works in accordance to international standards of quality management. Since 2004, CTC has held a certificate of compliance with the international standards of quality management system ISO 9001. Therefore, CTC became the first education and consultancy institute and non-profit organization holding this international certificate in the country.

Since its foundation CTC has delivered around 800 trainings, trained more than 9000 participants and worked with more than 100 different organizations. Implemented more than 10 bigger scale projects and many more smaller  contracts.

The Selected List of Projects

1. Strengthening of Development actors

Capacity building and networking programs for Georgian civil society organizations and other local development agencies

Budget: 880 000 Euro

2. Azerbaijan Civil Society Development,

The goal of the project was increase public participation in policy formation by strengthening NGO capacities for effective, responsive and responsible public-interest advocacy. The role of CTC was to establish an NGO resource centre in Baku and ensure delivery of capacity development program

3. School for civil integration

To mobilize 10 non-Georgian speaking communities of Marneuly region through the School Board and Sakrebulos for increasing effectiveness of teaching of State Language to both adults and juniors in the region.

4. Community Development in Upper Svanety

Establishment of a local resource centre to support building of local capacity to independently manage development processes in line with the needs of local community.

5. Development of micro entrepreneurship among IDPs

Support IDPs in new settlement areas to start up small business activities. Support is to be delivered through training, consultancy, small grant program.

6.  CTC program on Capacity Development for Social Integration

Enhancing chances for social integration and employment of youth from vulnerable families remained out of formal education sector by strengthening of non-formal adult education providers in Georgia.

CTC is working with 10 regional NGOs on youth training and inclusion

-  Improving financial sustainability of Georgian NGOs by strengthening their fundraising capacity and creating more enabling environment. Thus increasing overall sustainability of civil society development process in Georgia  

- Increasing the NGO participation in decision making by improving dialogue with the government and improvement of skills needed for policy partnership

7.     Promoting Partnership for Public Policy

Strengthening public policy analyses and planning skills in two Georgian Municipalities (Rustavi, Telavi) both among local NGOs and self-government and facilitating public policy dialogue process.

2006

Supporting self – employment and business activization of IDPs from Abkhazia settled in student dormitory in Vake

Private company Paladi  in partnership with OSGF assisted the IDPs living in Vake student dormitory to get business skills and a chance to start up their enterprises. Paladi was the investor and was willing apart from monetary compensation to give some extra benefits to the IDPs who were due to leave their places of residence

CTC trained 16 IDP women and consulted 5 to draw up the business plans which were submitted to banks for credit.  One business was issued a credit.

Supporting development of hospitality industry by training managers and owners of guesthouses ands small hotels in Signagi, Telavi, Mestia, Qobuleti, Kasbegi, Borjomi, Bakuriani

The small guesthouses and hotels were trained in marketing and hospitality standards, in total 65 people were trained;

The survey administered after the project showed that 83,3% of participants applied skills and made some changes in their businesses;

Apart a special video was produced depicting the problems in Georgian hospitality industry. Namely with regard to accommodation;

2005 – 2006

Supporting development of hospitality industry by training tourism related SMEs in Signagi, Mtskheta, Telavi

69 micro entrepreneurs passed through specific course elaborated by CTC in the selected towns.

The course was targeted for variety of small businesses working in tourism business and contributing to development of tourism cluster in the area. The course was aimed to help the participants draft their plans and submit for cheap credit program initiated by Government with procredit bank

Assisting self – employment of former military servants through provision of business training/consultancy

13 former military were trained through 12 days intensive course and 3 of them were consulted in writing down business plans. One of the participants  got a credit and started his business

Assisting development of small-scale rural businesses in Qvemo Kartly and Javakhety regions

1. Supporting start up and development of producer (farmers) and service groups through business training and consultancy. The groups are selected and granted by Care. CTC’s role is to render all needed training and advise services.

2. Supporting young women entrepreneurs. Assisting care in identification of best business ideas submitted by local women, training of the selected women (60 women have been already trained), advise Care in making granting decisions, consult granted women in running their micro businesses.
