CDI Project Fifth Phase Activities Overview

From June 2015, Center for Training and Consultancy (CTC) had successfully launched fifth phase of "Community Development Initiative“ project, which is initiated and funded by BP and its co-venturers in Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) and, South Caucasian Pipeline (SCP) companies.

The project is implementing in 62 communities of Gardabani, Marneuli, Tetritskaro and Tsalka municipalities and 18th and 19th districts of city Rustavi along East part of pipelines route.

At this stage, the following projects activities have been carried out within the components framework: 

Within CBO Organizational and Institutional Development Support component, 30 Community Based Organization members of Gardabani, Marneuli, Tetritskaro and Tsalka municipalities have passed skills assessment test. Based on tests results special training about Community Leader have been developed and will be delivered to respective CBO members. The training will highlight the following topics: higher inclusion of the community members, broader engagement with civil society at municipality level, participatory strategy and accountable structure, aiming skills assessment improvement and promote sustainable forms of Community Based Organizations to become a strong grassroots level institutions responding to social concerns.

Five infrastructure rehabilitation projects submitted by CBO’s of respective village have been accomplished within the Infrastructure Rehabilitation component. Have been rehabilitated inner roads in Jandari, irrigation/drainage Channels in the villages of Kalinino and Birliki, part of drainage channel in Nardevani and eight classrooms of # 28 Public school in Rustavi. Six infrastructure rehabilitation projects activities are ongoing in the village of Jigrasheni, Krtsanisi, Akhali Samgori, Karajalari and # 10 Public school of Rustavi. As a result of rehabilitation activities, total of 1663 households have benefited from the rehabilitated sites and 2165 meters of drainage channel have been installed and renovated which protects the villages from flooding roads.

In the frame of Small Business Promotion component, 131 applicants participated in Business Planning for Micro Entrepreneurs training and 54 micro entrepreneurs have been funded for business productions. New business establishment brings economic value to individual households, stimulates market growth, brings new products and services to communities, and strengthens community relationships.

Within the Demonstration Farm Creation component, 32 demonstration farms have been established. Individual consultations have been provided to the farmers of Gardabani, Marneuli, Tetritskaro and Tsalka municipalities. Farmers participated in the group seminars about Livestock and Seed Production Improved / Modern Technologies to acquaint with innovative farming technologies e.g. more productive crop varieties, improved technology of cattle breeding and obtain high replication potential. Information meeting has been conducted with the farmers and agricultural product suppliers to gain more information about raw materials in the market.  

In # 10 and # 28 Public Schools of Rustavi two Youth Clubs have been established consisted of 50 pupils. Youth clubs members went through seminars about Project Management, Volunteerism and Civic Activism, Job Search and Employment, Effective Presentation and Debate.

Youth Clubs developed and implemented two micro projects - School Library book fund. According to which the project bought 220 general educational and specialized books for # 10 and # 28 Public Schools libraries.   

20 kids from Rustavi #10 and #28 public schools were selected to participate in the summer camp. The children were selected according to the level of engagement in the activities of youth clubs supported by the previous phase of the project. Camp program was designed according scouts educational methodology.

Near future is planned second phase of Infrastructure Rehabilitation, Small Business Promotion and Youth Competence Development components implementation, expansions of previously funded Small Business, promotion of Agricultural Cooperatives and  funding of Youth Clubs micro projects.
