The Role of Civil Society

The university course “Role of Civil Society” was developed within the framework of the “Civil Society Development Initiative (CSSIGE)” project in cooperation with local higher education institutions and experts. The aim of the university course is for the new generations at the undergraduate level of education to get reliable and academic knowledge about civil society and organizations. The course was introduced in 6 educational institutions operating in different regions of the country (several universities additionally teach with the curriculum of the mentioned course). In 2018-2020, about 120 students completed the course. Further development and implementation of the course will continue within the framework of the Civil Society Initiative (STAR Initiative). Under the Civic Initiative (STAR) project, annual training camps are organized for successful graduate students. In 2018-2020, within the CSSIGE project, the course was introduced in 5 higher education institutions of Batumi, Gori, Zugdidi, Telavi and Kutaisi, the University of Georgia and Ilia State University. Within the framework of the Star project, the mentioned course was introduced at Samtskhe-Javakheti State University.

The “Oxford Handbook of Civil Society” is an extensive collection of academic articles/debates. The mentioned manual was translated with the support of the European Union and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation within the framework of the “Civil Society Development Initiative” project.
