Review of CDI6 Project Achievement

The 6th phase of Community Development Initiative project has ended. The program “Community Development Initiative” is initiated and funded by bp and its co-venturers in Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) and South Caucasian Pipeline (SCP) Companies. The project had been initiated in Georgia since 2003, and has been implemented by the Centre for training and consultancy since 2012, from its 4th phase in the target villages of Kvemo Kartli.

To maintain positive relations with the communities along the BTC/SCP pipeline route the project has carried out a number of activities to promote social and economic development and sustainability, and has achieved the planned results.

Among the many achieved by the project the following results are noteworthy:

CTC successfully managed implementation of the planned objectives and even exceeded them by accomplishing the following activities: 11 members of CBOs are capable to act as mentors in agricultural themes within the communities and there are times when they are addressed by the community helping them to locally deal with the agricultural problems;

17 infrastructure projects have been implemented, bringing benefits to 6147 households. The infrastructure rehabilitation projects were mainly implemented in schools, by which they created a clean, safe environment for the children and naturally raised the students motivation to learn;

A total of 82 entrepreneurs were funded in the target communities. ; 417 consultations and 43 thematic trainings on business management and administration were provided to the target beneficiaries; The establishment of business enterprises facilitated the creation and development of rural economic activity. 25 of the funded business enterprises created completely new service/product locally. Business financing has facilitated employment and became an additional source of income for the families.  At least 38% of businesses are led by women; 37% of start-up and scale-up businesses are run by young people under 35;

98 boys and girls of the target 2 Rustavi public schools were trained in critical thinking, First aid and disaster preparedness; environmental and climate change issues. New themes were introduced to the younger generations making them more resilient and broadening their knowledge base in themes not normally taught in general education.
